Dear Members,
HAPPY NEW YEAR
You have enclosed with this newsletter, a calendar plus your membership forms. Please join as soon as possible especially if you want to ride for the Area 5 Teams. As you know we had a very successful year in 2003. So lets see if we can do as well if not better.
I’m afraid I have to start the new year on a sad note. In November the clubhouse was broken into again They smashed the window in the storeroom and pushed in the metal bars. Not only that but the container was also broken into.
Unfortunately the new strimmer was stolen from the container. We have had to replace the window with a double glazed one and also renew the metal bars. We had planned on replacing all the windows and bars this year when we had more funds.
So your early subs would be appreciated.
On looking at the calendar if you have any comments or queries please let us know. The problem with having to produce our calendar so early on can catch us out a bit. So if you know anything we don’t let us know.
All that is left for me to say is that I wish you all a prosperous new year.
Pat Flavell
Subscriptions are now due. Thank you to everyone who has already paid their fees. Please pay before 1st April to avoid paying the additional joining fee.
Rugby Riding Club Points Scheme 2004
This will be the first year we have run a points scheme and it is designed so that members can collect their own points to go towards awards at the Annual General Meeting. To participate in the scheme, you must be a fully paid member of Rugby Riding Club for 2004.
There are two points scheme cards; one for ridden competitors and one for in-hand competitors. A horse/pony can compete in both the ridden and the in-hand points scheme but a separate card must be obtained for each horse/pony.
Points can be collected from any ridden or in-hand show held by the Rugby Riding Club committee at Rugby Riding Club, which are all listed in the 2004 Calendar. To claim points, you must complete all the details on the Rugby Riding Club Points Scheme Card. You must also get the show secretary, for that show, to sign the card.
All cards will need to be returned at the end of the season and must be returned no later than Monday 25th October 2004. Each card will then be checked and the points added up to determine awards at the Annual General Meeting 2004.
For further details/rules of the points scheme, please visit our website: www.rugbyridingclub.co.uk. Points scheme cards can be obtained by sending an A4 SAE to:

Please specify whether you require a ridden card, an in-hand card or both.
Well , once again its that very wet time of the year when it is nice to have something to look forward to. So I thought I would list the dates that might interest the Juniors.
Wednesday,18th February 7.30.P.M. Junior Committee Meeting at Wolston Fields Farm. All the juniors that have approached me about being on the committee should come along if possible. Any doubts or new people ring me.
Sunday, 2nd May J.C. MARC show including Dressage, Show Jumping & showing.
Sunday, 30th May J.C. Fun day & Mini O.D.E.
Sunday, 11th July J.C. Main show including MARC & PUK qualifiers.
Sunday, 29th August. J.C. Rainsbrook Derby Day.
It would be helpful if the juniors could discuss with their parents which of these dates they and hopefully their parents could help on. You can usually still ride on these days. We just all have to be very well organised, so that the days run smoothly!! It would be really great if you could help at two or three shows and give me an idea of which these might be at our first meeting.
If there are any queries give me a ring on 02476 542 131 Lesley Pugh
RUGBY RIDERS RETAIN OVERALL TROPHY
Over one hundred British Riding Club members from affiliated clubs in the local area, attended the Annual Area 5 quiz night and Awards Ceremony held at Weston under Wetherley Village Hall on Saturday 22nd November 2003
The evening started with an entertaining quiz organised by Tony Parker, followed by an extremely enjoyable supper, provided by several of the committee.
The highlight of the evening was the presentation of rosettes and trophies to the winning teams and individuals in every discipline, these awards were presented by Mr David Briggs, a member of the British Riding Clubs Executive and Area 5 Committee.
Rugby Riding Club have again had a very successful season, finishing overall first in the team section of the Dressage and Riders Test, with Susan Bullock on Celtic Cross taking the individual Riders Test title and Penny Boon on Mirage finishing third. In the dressage section Susan Bullock finished in third place on Celtic Cross and sixth on her second horse Jungle Jim.
In the Novice show jumping section, Rugby finished second with Sue Parker on Earl Tatler and Wendy Jones on Dodgem in joint second place individually, Rugby also finished second in the open show jumping and the equitation jumping where Anna Bancroft on He’s Smurfy finished second individually in both.
Moving on to the eventing awards, Cate Watson on Jacob finished fourth individually in the novice section and Rugby finished second in the novice horse trials team competition. The Juniors riders from Rugby, who this year include three national champions finished in a well deserved first place.
In the overall individual section Susan Bullock on Celtic Cross won the individual trophy having gained the most points throughout the season, with Cate Watson on Jacob finishing in second place and Anna Bancroft on He’s Smurfy fourth.
The night ended with the presentation of the Team Challenge Cup to the club achieving the highest number of points throughout the season taking into account every discipline and for the third year running this was awarded to Rugby Riding Club, a splendid achievement for everyone who represented the club last year.
Congratulations to everyone who represented the club last year and I look forward to seeing you all again in the new season. Don`t forget to check the Area 5 calendar page for this years dates, details will be posted on the website as they become available. Please remember that to compete in Area 5 competitions you must be a current paid up affiliated member of the club and your horse / pony must have an up to date Pre vac T certificate, a copy of which must be sent to me if you wish to compete.

THANK YOU
I would just like to thank everyone who contributed to the flowers and present which I received at the AGM in October. It was a wonderful surprise and I have commissioned two oil paintings one of Sarah, my eldest daughter riding Connaught Flash who many of you will remember successfully representing the club at Area 5 competitions in show jumping and XC. The second of Tracey riding Gristhills Slyfox who again has represented the club in dressage and show jumping. These are something I will treasure for many years, they have pride of place in our dining room so do pop in to see them if you are passing.
Once again many thanks and I look forward to seeing you all this coming season
